Messerschmitt KR200’s built from 1955 to 1958 were fitted with 2 x 6 volt 11 Ampere Hour batteries connected in series to give 12volts.
It was soon apparent that these batteries required a significant driving time to recharge after starting the engine and there were complaints about flat batteries – especially in winter when lights were used.
Unlike modern cars, the Messerschmitt dynastart has a very limited capacity producing a maximum 11 amps with a limited short-term output of 135 watts.
Almost all British versions had Exide 2 x 6v motorcycle batteries. It is possible to find small batteries of the original size at many motorcycle dealers.
This is a genuine original battery tray suits all Messerschmitt KR200/201 1956 to end of 1958. Many have corroded away so this part will restore it back to as new condition.
Note the original battery retainer brackets made to accept the rubber band type retainer. Could be used to accommodate a modern lightweight Li-Ion battery.
